“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

In February of 2025, Amanda was appointed to the vacant Director Position 1 for the Tillamook School District No. 9 School Board. She is running to keep that Director position this May. She is thoroughly enjoying her work on the board and is looking forward to continuing as she is passionate about supporting Tillamook students, families, teachers, staff and administrators. She believes that her passion, education, experience, and dedication will contribute to the kind of school board Tillamook deserves. And she is already seeing positive changes from her short tenure.
Amanda recognizes that there have been concerns with the Tillamook School Board and many in this community are ready for things to change for the better. She is utilizing her time on the board now to learn as much as she can about what it takes to be a board director: budgeting, policies, curriculum approval, teacher and staff contracts, and so much more. Amanda enjoys using her experience from being in school settings as a mental health professional, as well as her other leadership and professional experience, to inform her contributions to TSD9.
Amanda has the talent and patience for listening to the different voices at the table, even when there are conflicting values or desires, and then taking the various perspectives into consideration while making a decision. She has strong values and convictions that she is not afraid to advocate for while also knowing that what is best for the students is ALWAYS the focus and priority. Her only agenda is for our schools to best serve ALL of our students and families in the best ways possible while also caring for our staff, educators, and administrators.
Amanda is a strong supporter of public education and understands its value and contribution to society. She believes students should be at the center of all the district does and wants their voices and needs to be heard and considered first and foremost. She also recognizes that teachers, school staff, and administrators are tasked with hard jobs that are not always compensated nor respected adequately. She hopes to build a culture of respect, trust, safety, transparency, civility and integrity while serving as a board director.

“Bigotry is the disease of ignorance, of morbid minds; enthusiasm of the free and buoyant. Education and free discussion are the antidotes of both.”
